And I do believe the video and sound quality come out even better with the LG drive. When the burn is complete, the tray automatically opens for easy removal of the newly-minted DVD. Inserting a DVD disk (and it will accept just about all kinds) is as simple as snapping it into place on the spinner hub and then clicking the tray closed. It is also VERY quiet when burning a disk, and in most cases, if it weren't for the flashing LED light when it IS burning, I would hardly know it was running. It is also much slimmer, so it takes up much less room than I thought it would. What I like most of all is how much quieter it is than the internal drive had been. It took my DVD writing software a few tries before it also recognized the new drive, but once it did, I have had no problems at all.
The laptop "saw" the drive almost right away. Ive tried various ways to resolve this issue, ive tried patchburn but theres no version for my specific mac version. I opend up the box and there was no installation disc for apple or installation instructions. But I'm glad I went ahead and got it because it does as well as (and maybe even better than) the internal drive. Hi, I bought the LGs slim portable DVD writer know that I bought a product that is compatible with mac (says so on the box). I was leery at first about buying an external read/write optical drive for my laptop when my internal, factory-installed drive gave up after nearly 10 years of service. LG - Great reader/burner for a reasonable price
